Come celebrate 20 years of natural burial! Connect with friends, visit loved ones, stroll to the Remembrance Grove, Wind Phone or Leopold Overlook and get the latest Greensprings news!

Dish-to pass lunch starts at 11am. Official meeting including election of the Board of Trustees members, and annual report begins at noon.

All site owners, staff, volunteers, and friends are encouraged to attend. Tours will be available after the meeting.

Rain date will be Sunday June 28th from 11am - 1pm

Caring for Your Cemetery Day

Join us for an hour or for 4!  We'll be tidying up our demonstration gardens and grounds, checking on our places of solace, and looking to the skies for bird sightings!  Staff and on-going volunteers will be there with tools and support.

Talking About Death Won't Kill You

Talking about death won’t kill you ... it can help you make informed decisions about end-of-life plans for yourself and others.

Drop by Saturday April 25th from 1pm - 4pm at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca and explore these topics with staff from local agencies:

  • advance care planning - health care proxy & living will

  • patient rights including medical aid in dying

  • accessing palliative care & hospice care

  • funeral planning

  • green burial

In addition to speaking with staff at the different tables, there will be a mini-talk (10-15 minutes) on each topic starting at 2:00pm

Dying Green: Environmental, Spiritual & Practical Considerations for a Green Burial

Ithaca Friends Meetinghouse, 120 Third Street, Ithaca

Join us for a panel discussion about green death practices. The focus will be on Greensprings, both its history and what you will find there, as well as the ecological stewardship of a natural burial ground that is dedicated to habitat preservation and conservation. The panelists will also talk about:

  • what qualifies as a green way to dispose of a body,

  • what green burial options are available in New York State,

  • whether cremation is "green," and

  • FAQs re logistical natural burial considerations

Our speakers include:

  • Michelle Menter: Executive Director, Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve

  • Kyle Sharp: Funeral Director, Lansing Funeral Home and certified green burial provider with the Green Burial Council

  • Lynn Leopold: a lifelong crusader for the environment, former Trustee of Greensprings and wife of co-founder Carl Leopold.

  • Guided bird hike that leaves from the main kiosk at 10am
